The Story
The Great Wall of China is one of the greatest architectural achievements in human history. Construction began over 2,000 years ago during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) when Emperor Qin Shi Huang connected existing fortifications to protect China from northern invaders. The wall was continuously expanded and rebuilt over subsequent dynasties, with the most famous sections built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD). Stretching over 21,000 kilometers across mountains, deserts, and grasslands, the wall served as both a military defense system and a symbol of Chinese civilization. Today, it stands as a testament to ancient engineering prowess and remains one of the world's most visited landmarks.
